about
Sometime in the early 1970s, my electric piano proudly bore a bumper sticker with the phrase "Ignore Alien Orders," which pretty much summed up my feelings and fears of modern life at that time.
Fast forward to 2009 when I was (finally) finishing my BA at Purchase College and was assigned an "art piece" for an American history class. The theme of the class was individual freedom and the project had to be somehow connected.
The "Pledge of Allegiance" came up in conversation with my then 11-year-old neighbor, Maya Bater. Under my direction, Maya threw out lyrics from on a prescribed set of phrases. The backing track was made from GarageBand freebie loops.
lyrics
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, I refuse to submit, and to the republic for which it stands, I pledge not, ignore alien orders, one nation under god, I don't, indivisible, I won't, with liberty and justice for all.
